Opposition Leader Peter Dutton has condemned Prime Minister Anthony Albanese for not criticising the ICC prosecutor’s allegation that Netanyahu is committing war crimes.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has refused to comment on the International Criminal Court prosecutor’s request for arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, his defence chief and three Hamas leaders for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity, diverging from US President Joe Biden’s attack on The Hague.that the charges related to the October 7 attack on Israel by the Hamas militant group, and to Israel’s subsequent military response in Gaza.
“We’ve said that every life matters, whether it be Israeli or Palestinian, and we’ve called for progress towards a two-state solution. That is where we’re concentrating, playing a role where we can in promoting the rights of both Israelis and Palestinians to live in security in peace and with prosperity,” he said.
“We need to make sure the international rule of law is applied fairly and not on a political basis and to draw an equivalence between Israel and Hamas I think is repugnant.” Council co-chief executive Alex Ryvchin said Khan’s allegations were “a dangerous politicisation of the ICC” and “obliterates the moral and legal distinction between terrorists and democratic states”.The network said in a statement it welcomed the ICC prosecutor’s application for arrest warrants.
