Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has taken aim at the Coalition and minor parties who are opposing Labor’s $10 billion Housing Australia future fund.
Mr Albanese on Saturday admitted he found it"extraordinary" the Greens, crossbenchers and the Opposition were opposed to Labor’s proposed policy which has been stalled in the Senate.
“It’s extraordinary that we have legislation that will see 30,000 additional social homes being built in coming years, 4,000 of which are reserved for women and children escaping domestic violence. “The people can be held to account now for whether they continue to block and continue to oppose social housing. But you can't say you're in favour of it and continue to vote against it.”
Opposition Leader Peter Dutton has acknowledged the Government’s pledge to build more homes appears viable but believes the plan is “ambitious” and does “not mean anything”. “We all want to see more houses, we all want to more supply… the trouble is these figures don’t mean anything. As we’ve seen in relation to other issues, he makes the announcement but there’s no delivery.”
