A public decision was adopted on April 4, 2024 about Complaint H 23-02 against Rep. David Eastman (Alaska-R). This decision was ultimately made by the House Subcommittee of the Select Committee on Legislative Ethics.
FAIRBANKS, Alaska - A complaint was made against Rep. David Eastman which alleged that during the 2023 legislative session, he used his campaign website,, to raise campaign donations with the intent of paying his legal bills which violates “AS 24.60.031”.
A public decision was adopted on April 4, 2024 about Complaint H 23-02 against Eastman. This decision was ultimately made by The House Subcommittee of the Select Committee on Legislative Ethics, according to a press release. The Ethics Committee determines whether the allegations of a complaint – some or all – would constitute a violation, if proven and the committee has the duty to investigate under AS 24.60.170.
On April 4, 2024, the House Subcommittee met and came to a consensus that the complaint against Eastman gave probable cause and he did indeed violate the Legislative Ethics Act. On February 1, 2023, he solicited a campaign contribution through his website and accepted a $100 donation during the 2023 legislative session.
In response, Eastman immediately took action and returned the $100 contribution on the same day which resulted in the House Subcommittee dismissing the complaint, following AS 24.60.170. This decision is public and on May 18, 2023, Eastman waived confidentiality of the complaint.
