The photo, which had been shared on WhatsApp, had caused alarm among residents here, over the past few days.
“Such fake news had caused unnecessary panic among those staying in the area where the tiger was purportedly sighted,” said Negri Sembilan Wildlife Department director Wan Mat Wan Harun when asked to comment on the matter. He said based on studies, the tiger population of Peninsular Malaysia is less than 200 and none of them is in Negri Sembilan.“The public should refrain from spreading fake news as it will spark fear in others,” he added.
Nonetheless, he said the department will investigate the matter by sending its officers to the Felda settlement.
