Singer-songwriter Alanis Morissette gave fans a healthy heaping of her iconic 90s album 'Jagged Little Pill' delivered with passion and power at Blossom on Wednesday night.

As with her opener Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Morissette’s preamble was a video montage of her career with snippets of women artists, including Kelly Clarkson, praising Morissette and her music as important to their personal and creative lives. But that was one of the few heavy moments of the evening, as Morissette smiled through much of the show and kept the “Jagged” hits coming with “Right Through You” and one of the few newer tunes, “Reasons I Drink.” The opening verses of several songs were used as ersatz intros to more popular tunes, such as a snatch of “Forgiven” leading into “You Learn.”
The encore offered a down-right grungy and heavy take on “Uninvited” and had the crowd swaying and singing with what was left of their collective voices with “Thank U.” Bikini Kill’s classic “Rebel Girl,” was her preamble followed by a montage of clips from her nearly 50-year career. Jett and the Blackhearts, all clad in black, opened with the New York Doll’s “Victim of Circumstance,” from her debut solo record, which set the tone.
She kept the theme going with a country-rocking cover of The Replacements “Androgynous,” with Jett praising songwriter Paul Westerberg for writing lyrics to which she said she could relate followed by a fuzzed-out take on Sly & The Family Stone’s “Everyday People.” Jett ended her set with a foursome of sing-a-long favorites. “I Love Rock n’ Roll,” “Crimson & Clover,” “I Hate Myself For Loving You,” and “Bad Reputation.” That got the still settling crowd to their feet and chanting.
