Lauderdale County investigators say a three-year-old child fired a semi-automatic handgun Saturday afternoon, leaving him wounded in the chest.
the incident happened about 2:52 p.m. Saturday, when authorities learned of a three-year-old gunshot victim being taken to a hospital in a private vehicle.
According to Sheriff Joe Hamilton, deputies and emergency medical services met the vehicle at a business on Alabama 157 in Florence. The child, whose name was not released, was airlifted to Birmingham for treatment and was released Sunday with a grazing wound on the chest.
