Dustin Austin, 39, will be eligible for parole after serving 31 years of his sentence for the slaying of 24-year-old Darrick Boyer.

AKRON, Ohio — An Akron man was sentenced to life in prison after he was convicted last month of the fatal shooting of a 24-year-old man on New Year’s Eve in 2019.

According to the prosecutor’s office, Boyer, along with several others, was at the home of Mariah Austin on Dec. 31, 2019. Boyer and Austin have children together, prosecutors say. Austin was found guilty by a Summit County jury on June 9 of aggravated murder, two counts of murder, felonious assault, kidnapping, and aggravated robbery, all with gun specifications. He also was convicted of having a weapon under disability.
