AKRON, Ohio – Akron Children’s Hospital is working to roll out an autism spectrum disorder pilot program at its Fairlawn primary care office to facilitate early intervention, according to the hospital.
The program aims to aid early intervention for children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder, which has been shown to improve outcomes and reduce healthcare costs for families, according to the hospital. For the pilot program, the social worker will work alongside physicians to streamline the process for getting an assessment and diagnosis. Then, the social worker will work with subspecialists based on patient needs. The social worker will also help connect families with community organizations and resources. The overall goals of the program are efficiency for providers and enhanced access for families, with an ultimate goal of improving patient outcomes through early intervention and treatment.
