Airbus celebrated the construction a second A320 assembly line, creating Airbus' 3rd assembly line at Brookley Aeroplex.
"It's an exciting day for airbus and it's also an exciting day for our communities in Mobile County and Baldwin County as well to have the 3rd expansion of Airbus in the short time that they've been here and the things that they bring to our community as far as economic growth," says Mobile County Commissioner Randall Dueitt.
The Mobile County Commission approved an Airbus expansion project incentive package of $10 million in June. The City of Mobile approved a similar package in May. "It's always been important to me to make sure that when you're giving an economic incentive to an industry that’s coming here, to make sure that you're getting something out that economic you know your taxpayers are paying that out of their tax dollars," says Commissioner Duiett.
What taxpayers are getting out of it? Well, other than the 1,000 new positions for local residents over the next 10 years, Airbus' capital infrastructure outlay will also be boosted to roughly $1 billion at the Brookley Aeroplex, and the project will secure Mobile's position as the 4th largest commercial aerospace manufacturing site in the world. The minimum average hourly wage for the new jobs is $31.25 per hour.
