Ahsoka's Opening Crawl Breakdown: Why It Has One, Why It's Red & What It Sets Up

Although the opening crawl has been an intrinsic part of Star Wars movies since the beginning, Lucasfilm’s lack of movement on that front has meant one hasn’t been seen since 2019.

Since Ahsoka has one and The Mandalorian did not, then it can be seen as being the true beginning of the story that will continue into that movie. The Mandalorian may have provided the foundation, but its main thrust is separate: it’s about Din Djarin and Grogu, and beyond that the Mandalorians reclaiming their home world.

What Ahsoka's Opening Crawl Really Means Ahsoka’s opening crawl isn’t just thematically fitting, but definitely sets up both the coming episodes of the show, and the franchise’s future, especially The Mandalorian movie. Again, this will give the rise of the First Order, so a war will eventually come to pass, even if Thrawn seemingly isn’t around by the time it does. Given the tease then and the existence of a movie to culminate this particularly story, then it suggests another war, or at least a major battle, is going to be fought across Ahsoka and the follow-up film, pitting at least some of the New Republic alongside Ahsoka, Sabine Wren, Din Djarin, et al against the might mustered up by Thrawn.
