Agent Scott Boras: Astros 'haven't skipped a beat' without a general manager

“They’ve been great to work with,” Boras said of Houston’s front office. “They’ve been very attentive in communication. Jim’s been on the phone with me a number of times. They really haven’t skipped a beat as far as how we deal with them.”

Crane promoted Firkus and Charles Cook to assistant general manager alongside Andrew Ball in the wake of Click’s departure. The trio is representing Houston at the winter meetings, which Crane will not attend. “I was talking to a little bit ago, constantly updating him on what’s going on,” Firkus said Monday night. “We’re running down all the meetings here, all the different opportunities and then we just keep him updated in terms of what we want to do and what are the different opportunities to improve the roster.”

Crane keeping in contact with Boras is unsurprising. Boras represents four Astros, including second baseman Jose Altuve and third baseman Alex Bregman. If the club is considering adding another Boras client this winter, two of the most logical fits are Michael Conforto and Brandon Nimmo. Both are lefthanded hitting outfielders, which would fill the most obvious hole on Houston’s roster. The team remains interested in free-agent catcher Willson Contreras, too, in an effort to add more pop behind the plate.
