Mfundo Vilakazi has been a bright spot for Kaizer Chiefs. His agent has compared him to a former Amakhosi and Orlando Pirates star.

Mfundo Vilakazi, affectionately known as Obrigado, was a 66th-minute substitute for Pule Mmodi in Amakhosi’s 1-0 weekend defeat at Richards Bay. His agent Mike Makaab has waxed lyrical about the 18-year-old’s natural abilities. He’s compared him to”I had the fortune of representing Jabu Mahlangu and I never thought I would see another player with that innate talent, that unbelievable ability on the ball until I saw Mfundo Vilakazi,” said Makaab during Extra Time on Gagasi FM.

“He is probably one of the most exciting young players I have seen in this country for many many years. I just hope, and we will obviously try and play our part, that he keeps his feet on the ground, but more importantly that the talent and skill isn’t coached out of him because you have got to encourage him to do what he is doing. He glides past defenders as if they don’t exist,” added Makaab.

keeping him at Naturena until June 2028. He’s especially popular for his flamboyant dribbling skills and left foot which have impressed the first-team technical staff. In his breakout campaign, the 18-year-old has made six matchday squads, appearing off the bench thrice, including in the Soweto Derby against Orlando Pirates. Vilakazi wears the number 29 jersey.Chiefs are still toothless in 2024

Not even Mfundo Vilakazi, however, seems to be able to stop the goal-scoring rot at Chiefs right now. Shockingly, they’ve only scored 19 goals from 24 league games this term and have a goal difference of zero. Last term they managed 32 goals in 30 games at an average of 1.07 goals per game. Their average stands at 0.79 goals per game in 2023/24. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to notice the problem plaguing them and how it’s worsened.
