Attorney-General Dusuki Mokhtar says the final charges will be determined after his office thoroughly reviews the police’s findings.

PETALING JAYA: The Attorney-General’s Chambers has ordered for the probe into the crash that killed five people and injured eight in Kluang , Johor, on Monday to be classified as murder and death caused by reckless and dangerous driving.

The New Straits Times quoted Attorney-General Dusuki Mokhtar as saying that the final charges would be determined after his office reviews the findings of the police investigation. Dusuki expressed disappointment that the stern action taken in previous fatal road accident cases, including murder charges, did not appear to have deterred errant drivers. Harian Metro meanwhile reported Kluang police chief Bahrin Noh as saying that police had extended the remand of a 19-year-old involved in the accident by one day.

Yesterday, Bahrin said the teenager, who was driving a Mercedes-Benz E240, was believed to have been racing his brother, Goh Yi Sheng, 22, who was driving a BMW, before the crash at 1.19pm on Jalan Renggam-Simpang Renggam. Goh lost control of his BMW, crossed into the opposite lane, and collided with a Perodua Alza, Toyota Vios, Proton Wira 1.5, and his brother’s Mercedes-Benz.

The four occupants of the Vios – Aiman Rashid, 36, Nur Airish Syifa Sidek, 10, Nor Azlina Abd Latif, 33, and Semek Mat Soh, 73 – were pronounced dead at the scene. Goh died from severe chest injuries while being transported to hospital. The eight other people involved in the crash were rushed to Enche Besar Hajjah Khalsom Hospital in Kluang for treatment.
