: The draft amendments to the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 have been approved by the Attorney General’s Chambers , announced Deputy Minister of Communications, Teo Nie Ching.
She was responding to a question from Dr. Kelvin Yii Lee Wuen about the ministry’s plan to review and refine Section 233 of Act 588 to ensure its scope and application are not open to abuse. She noted that feedback from these consultations has been integral in finalising the proposed amendments to Act 588.
“The Ministry, along with other relevant ministries, will thoroughly assess whether amendments to existing laws are needed, or if new legislation is required to address harmful online activities,” she stated.
