Women from the host community to the Port Harcourt International Airport, Rivers State, Tuesday barricaded the entrance gate of the aviation institution over alleged neglect by the management and operators of the facility.
This was the second time in three months women of the host Ipo Community in Ikwerre Local Government Area of the state were barricading the entrance of the International Airport in protest.
Awuse, had pleaded with the protesters to return home that he would liaise with stakeholders and meet with the airport authority to resolve the issues raised. The protesters stormed the airport gate with placards bearing, “Ipo Women are on a Peaceful Protest,” “We Deserve Better Treatment as Host Community, “We Want Electricity in Our Community,” “We Demand Our Citizens Rights,” and others.
Speaking one of the leaders of the protest Orinda Amadi said noted that they were pout to protest lack of electricity, adding that they were being neglected by the airport authorities.
