PETALING JAYA: Attorney-General Tommy Thomas has brushed aside talk that he failed to advise the Conference of Rulers on the need to commit to the Rome Statute.

Utusan Malaysia quoted him as saying the allegations were false and he would explain the matter today.

Thomas and law professor Emeritus Prof Datuk Dr Shad Saleem Faruqi had failed to convince the Conference of Rulers. They are International Islamic University Malaysia’s Dr Shamrahayu Abdul Aziz and Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia law lecturer Dr Fareed Mohd Hassan. “The paper presented by the four academicians were biased, factually wrong and had purposely twisted sensitive issues to confuse the Yang di-Pertuan Agong,” Asheeq claimed in a statement yesterday.

The forum intends to discuss the issues surrounding the Rome Statute. On April 5, Putrajaya said it would withdraw from ratifying the international treaty that covers serious crimes and crimes against humanity.
