After three seasons, including last year's Group 2 championship run, Rick Brunson has stepped down as Camden's boys basketball coach
When Rick Brunson took over three years ago, the ultimate goal was to win a state championship.
“Serving as head basketball coach at Camden High School was a wonderful and life changing experience. Connecting with so many young players through our mutual love of the game, while serving as a mentor and developing them into valuable members of society was the most rewarding part of the job,” Brunson told NJ Advance Media. “Winning the state championship this year was a result of many hours of hard work and dedication. I’m proud of what we accomplished during my time in Camden.
According to the statement, the district’s Senior Director of K-12 Athletic Programming and Camden athletic director Mark Phillips will oversee the program while a search to find the next coach is initiated. “I have known Rick for over 30 years and I can’t say enough about how proud I am of him as a person and the positive impact he made in our city. He will be missed.”
