The radioactive capsule that went missing in Western Australia has been found. It will be stored in a secure location in Newman before being transported to a Perth health facility.
Emergency Services Minister Stephen Dawson said the discovery was extraordinary considering the scope of the search area."The search groups have quite literally found the needle in the haystack." The mining giant said a bolt that secured the capsule within the gauge appeared to have sheared off, creating a hole just big enough for the item to escape.
Health Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson on Wednesday said the government was looking at increasing the outdated and "unacceptably low" penalty. Department of Fire and Emergency Services chief executive Darren Klemm said it had been an outstanding collaboration between state and federal agencies.
