The AFL boosts player prize money in the women's competition by almost 100 per cent to be equal with the men, but the pool will be split across eight women's teams as opposed to four men's teams.

The AFL announced on the eve of the eighth AFLW season that the player prize money for AFL Women's players would almost double to match the men's total. AFLW season seven player prize money was $623,922, but the figure will almost double to $1.1 million split across the top eight teams this season."We have two of the best sporting competitions in the country," AFL chief executive Andrew Dillon said.

"A great announcement in addition to the McClelland Trophy and $1 million in prize money to be shared across the champion club's AFL and AFLW players that was introduced earlier this year."
