Geelong remain hopeful of luring Irishman Conor McKenna out of retirement, but concede they haven’t been in contact with the former Bomber for a while. The Cats have been keeping tabs on the 26-year-old and hope he join fellow Irishmen Zach Tuohy and Mark O’Connor.
Geelong list manager Andrew Mackie said the fact he can be recruited as a rookie means a decision might not be known for a while. “Conor can come on as a rookie listed player so that’s attractive and we spoke to him earlier in the year, but there hasn’t been discussion on him in a while,” he said on Trade Radio. The key tall remains contracted at the Cats, but the club appears to have softened their stance after ruling out a trade on Monday.
“We’ve put games into Sav, the coach does love him and he is contracted. But we totally understand, six years into the system, he’s trying to work out where he can play the most footy,” he said.
