For those of us old enough to remember the 1984-85 Essendon premierships, it was a pleasure to watch the Bombers of yesteryear be celebrated as they completed a motorcade around the boundary of the MCG on Saturday.
Forty years on since their famous wins over Hawthorn, Tim Watson, Paul Vander Haar, Paul Salmon , Mark Thompson and coach Kevin Sheedy were among those cheered on by fans.That Essendon team was one of the greats of all time, the genesis of the rivalry with the Hawks beginning with the latter’s record-breaking 83-point win in the ’83 grand final.
