The Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Social Media, Dada Olusegun, has confirmed that they are in touch with the Nigerian Mission in Libya, over the stranded Super Eagles players. The Nigerian players and coaches has been held hostage at the Al Abraq Airport over 15 hours after arrival in Libya.
The delegation are in the North African country for a 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against the Mediterranean Knights. Olusegun wrote on X: 'Nigeria's Foreign Affairs Minister @YusufTuggar is in touch with the Nigerian Mission in Libya through the CDA Amb Stephen Anthony Awuru who has also been in touch with the NFF and Libya n authorities since last night, but Libya n authorities were yet to authorize them to travel to Bayda City where the airport is located.
'However, the CDA instructed the head of the Nigerian community in Benghazi, Mr Morris Eromosele, who arrived there this morning with supplies and internet access. 'The minister continues to monitor the unfortunate event through the CDA and awaits a report for further action.
