The Dubliner narrowly missed out on an Olympic medal as she finished fourth in the women's 400m final earlier this month.
The Olympics are one of the world’s biggest sporting events, but for Adeleke, she was surprised to find that they weren’t totally unfamiliar to her. However, there was one big difference. “There were some things that were obviously new. I got used to being at the Olympic Village, but the biggest from the World Championships to the Olympics was the viewership. People from all walks of life are tuned in, not just athletics fans that would usually be tuned into European or World Championships. That was really showed on social media.
Chatting about the follower surge, she said: “That was the biggest change. There were people watching from all around the world, from all walks of life, young, old and different countries. It was a big time to recognise different athletes. That pretty much happened with all athletes competing at the Olympic Games. You’re just getting more recognition.”
