A partnership between Siemens and ConnectDER will allow a Level 2 AC Charger to be easily added to your home without any other costly electrical upgrades.
meaning, if you need to upgrade your electrical panel to work with 240 volts at 40-60 amps, you're eating that upgrade cost. This is a massive challenge for those homeowners as that upgrade doesn't come quick or cheap. Fortunately, there are other solutions coming soon. Siemens and ConnectDER have partnered up to provide an inexpensive alternative to an upgraded electrical panel that still allows owners to connect their Level 2 Chargers.
The main idea comes from ConnectDER and their experience with adding a collar between the meter box and metering head for home solar power installations. These collars are not only standardized, making installation straightforward, but also UL-certified. They are also tool-free, requiring no additional wiring and their solar version is capable of parallel power with the utility grid for
. So far, ConnectDER has installed 12,000 solar meter collars, so they know this connection technology works.However, this system can also be utilized to work with Level 2 chargers as well. With the ConnectDER meter collar attachment, not only does this allow for a direct connection to a 240 volt line necessary for a Level 2 AC charger, but also takes out the need for an expensive 240 volt, 40-60 amp capable electrical panel setup.
