Sunset Park a strong possibility for another so-called respite center as mayor looks to greenspaces to create shelters
McCarren Park in Brooklyn is expected to be the latest city site to house migrants. | Bebeto Matthews/AP PhotoNEW YORK — New York City officials will move migrants to temporary housing in Brooklyn’s McCarren Park as soon as Friday, local elected officials told POLITICO.
About 100 migrants would be housed in the Sunset Park recreation center, currently closed for recreation. Between 80 and 100 migrants will be sheltered in part of the McCarren Park recreation center, which has been open to the public. There are still walkthroughs to be conducted at the McCarren Park site, according to the text messages.
