In some cases, the US would even have to change national-security protocols in order to trade goods with China that it actually wants.One of the big problems here — and there are many — is that the US and China don't have matching wish lists. The US doesn't want to sell China all the things it wants, and China does not want/need the things that the US wants to sell it .

For some goods, like electronics , the US doesn't want to sell these goods for the sake of national security or intellectual-property protection .
