ActionSA has also initiated complaints against the EFF and MK Party with the IEC.
ActionSA says it will be taking the Electoral Commission to court for failing to investigate the over R100-millon Ezulweni Investments debt settlement by the African National Congress .
Last year, Ezulweni wanted to liquidate the ANC to recover money owed to it for work done during the 2019 elections. The ANC later announced that they have settled the debt. Party chairperson Michael Beaumont says after confirming in March this year that it would be handling the matter in terms of the Political Party Funding Act, the IEC has now reneged on that commitment.
“ActionSA will now initiate legal action against the IEC, that in the first instance will obtain a record of the IEC’s decision making in this matter. In other words, the IEC is going to have to furnish us with the information and documentation on how they came to the view that there is nothing to investigate here. In the one instance if that involves the debt settlement agreement, we will finally be able to get our hands on that agreement.
Additionally, ActionSA has also initiated complaints against the EFF and MK Party with the IEC for not disclosing their election funding in full.
