What many on social media have simply labelled as a meltdown, the DA's MPC partners say goes against the spirit of a multi-party democracy.

JOHANNESBURG - At least two major partners in the Multi-Party Charter have described Democratic Alliance leader John Steenhuisen'sas disingenuous and a demonstration of insecurity.

Steenhuisen, speaking at the launch of the provincial manifesto at the Huguenot Hall in Paarl on Saturday, warned supporters against a doomsday coalition. He also labelled parties such as Good, Rise Mzansi, the National Coloured Congress and the Patriotic Alliance as mercenaries. Even though the FF+, which just fielded Corne Mulder to contest as Western Cape premier, was not subjected to Steenhuisen's rant, the party’s Wouter Wessels had thoughts about the weekend remarks.

Meanwhile, ActionSA's Micheal Beaumount said that Steenhuisen's broadside merely showcased his insecurities.
