The man accused of a mass killing at a home near Cleveland appeared before a San Jacinto County judge Thursday as his lawyers requested expedited evidence in the case.

The judge turned his attention to the accused shooter while cycling through the jail docket. Oropeza entered the courtroom flanked by San Jacinto County Sheriff Greg Capers. He remained silent as his Houston-based defense lawyer, Anthony Osso, pressed the court for access to a portion of the evidence ahead of the expected indictment. Defense investigators from Osso's office have already begun work the case.
"Our typical rule is to not to pre-indictment discovery but this is not a typical case," Dillon said, referring to evidence that will eventually be shared with the defense.
