The issue of academic freedom has long been discussed in our country. Students and academics have always yearned for academic freedom, as it allows them to voice their opinions without fear of disciplinary action. The Pakatan Harapan government took steps to establish academic freedom after winning the 14th General Election in 2018 by amending certain provisions of the University and University Colleges Act 1971. These amendments aimed to allow active political participation by students and encourage them to speak up.
