Investigators will spend the weekend piecing together how a Brisbane City Council bus mounted a footpath during peak hour, killing an 18-year-old girl, who had just left a beauty salon moments before.

The family of Tia Cameron, from Hemmant, in Brisbane’s south, say they are waiting for further information from the coroner before beginning funeral preparations for the 18-year-old. She has been remembered by loved ones as an “absolutely stunning person to everyone.”Cameron had been standing on the Edward Street footpath, outside the Anzac Square Arcade across from Starbucks, when she was hit by the bus, and pinned against the wall about 5pm on Friday.

Video from the immediate minutes after the crash shows the driver still in the seat of the bus, with glass over the footpath. Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner and Transport for Brisbane divisional manager Samantha Abeydeera gave an update to the crash on Saturday, but Schrinner said many “questions are unanswered”.

Schrinner said he had spoken with the driver, and that “in a situation like this, he was doing as you would expect”. Investigators were still obtaining CCTV and other footage from the area, calling on any further witnesses to come forward.
