Every county in Greater Cleveland now has some areas classified as being abnormally dry and at risk of drought, according to data from the U.S. Drought Monitor.
Some part of each county in Greater Cleveland is now considered abnormally dry.CLEVELAND, Ohio - on June 30, whene only parts of Cuyahoga, Lake, and Summit counties have received the classification, as well as all of Geauga and Portage counties
Abnormally dry weather is the first level of intensity in a season’s drought cycle, and signals a slowdown in the planting and growth of crops or pastures. In Ohio, this typically translates to stunted crop growth and a decline in pond levels. Drought is a normal part of the climate cycle, but losses from drought can be as substantial as those from other natural disasters. Droughts can affect agriculture, water supply, energy production, public health, and wildlife, while also contributing to wildfires.
