Things aren’t quite the same these days at Arnold Bloch Leibler.
In decades past, the storied Melbourne law firm was an exemplar of covert influence rendered in the mould of its namesake60th birthday celebrations in 2013Leibler may still be figurehead, but ABL’s next generation don’t have the same touch. There they were in every major newspaper, lording it up on prime display at the firm’s 70th birthday bash on Monday night. Forget stealth, this is now showbiz.
“Lukey boy assures me he knew nothing so as far as I’m concerned, that’s the end of the matter. My federal colleagues disagree? They don’t sink piss with us at the Foxes’, so what would they know?” He sets the joint alight and then wants accolades for ringing the fire brigade. He toasts half a billion dollars of public money onbrain fart – all to win a few regional seats at the state election – and now he’s a hero for cancelling it?
“Oh but I make the tough decisions, don’t I, Lukey? Mate, go and fetch a couple of coldies for Leon and me.”That’s neon Leon, ABL’s so-called “Mr Fix-It.” He acts as legal negotiator for Andrews each time one of his major projects needs to be cancelled, needs more money, or needs more money to be cancelled – which is dead set regularly. The Metro Tunnel, the West Gate Tunnel, the East West Link, and now the Commonwealth Games. He’s got the Suburban Rail Loop coming right up.
