KUALA LUMPUR: Men’s doubles pair Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik have a shot at winning their first Badminton World Federation Tour title of the year after advancing to the final of the China Open in Changzhou last night. The pair beat world champions Kang Min-hyuk and Seo Seung-jae of South Korea 21-18, 21-17 in a 41-minute semifinal and will meet China’s Liang Wei Keng and Wang Chang in the showdown after the home duo bested Japanese pair Takuro Hoki and Yugo Kobayashi 21-16, 20-22, 22-20 in the other last four tie.

Both finalists were bronze medallists at the World Championships in Copenhagen, Denmark, with the Chinese pair ranked fourth in the world ahead of No 6 Aaron-Wooi Yik.Aaron-Wooi Yik’s sole victory over them pair was at the Indonesian Masters last January. They are the only national representatives left in the finals tomorrow after both mixed doubles pairs Tan Kian Meng and Lai Pei Jing, and Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei, exited in the semifinals.
