PETALING JAYA: World champions Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik delivered the winning point to lead Malaysia into the semi-finals of the Sudirman Cup after beating Denmark 3-1 in Suzhou, China.
Aaron-Wooi Yik put up a confident show to beat Kim Astrup-Anders Skaarup Rasmussen 21-17; 21-16 on Friday .
"I'm happy to deliver the winning point for Malaysia. We were nervous in the beginning as there were pressure to win but we did it," said Aaron.Earlier, mixed doubles pair Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei justified the faith of the selectors when they handed Malaysia the first point after coming from an opening match setback to beat Mathias Christiansen-Alexandra Boje 15-21, 21-14, 21-7.
The match between Lee Zii Jia and Viktor Axelsen ended in an anti-climax fashion when the latter limped out with a hamstring injury. The world No. 1 conceded a walkover at 4-4 to hand Malaysia a 2-0 lead. Goh Jin Wei had a fighting chance to wrap-up the tie with a 3-0 win but she blundered with a costly mistake in the deciding game and went down 14-21, 21-15, 19-21 to Mia Blichfeldt.
