Montgomery went at New York over how they used him, especially over his four-seam fastball, the pitch that has transformed his season in St. Louis.
“I didn’t really have much faith in my heater at the Yankees,” Montgomery said on a podcast with CC Sabathia and Ryan Ruocco. “I had been told that it wasn’t that good compared to my other pitches and if I was gonna get hit, it was gonna be on a curveball or changeup, which isn’t how you can pitch.”
On a Thursday appearance on “The Michael Kay Show,” Yankee manager Aaron Boone said he thought Montgomery’s criticism of the Yankees has been unfair. “Monty had been a really good pitcher for us and he’s gone there and he’s had a good start to his Cardinal career,” Boone said. “Pitching in a large ballpark in the National League Central, frankly is a different animal than pitching in the American League East.”Yankees manager Aaron Boone was surprised by Jordan Montgomery’s comments about his time in New York.“I always liked when Monty threw his heater,” he said. “When I saw that, I was like, ‘Oh, wow, OK.
Both the Yankees and Cardinals seem to be on their way to winning their respective divisions, and if they both have postseason success, Boone might be seeing Montgomery again come the end of October.
