Weeks after the statue of slave trader Edward Colston was unceremoniously toppled and thrown into England’s Bristol Harbour, setting off a global removal of statues representing racist figures, a monument of a Black Lives Matter protester has been mounted on the same plinth by artist Marc Quinn and his team.... [+]The statue is of Jen Reid, an anti-racism protester who was photographed standing atop the plinth after Colston’s statue was pulled at a protest in June over the death of George Floyd.
Cast in black resin, it was put up by a team of 10 people, directed by Quinn, at around 5 a.m. U.K. time on Wednesday. The statue, which has been in the works between Reid and Quinn for weeks, was put up unbeknownst to the city’s authorities, who have yet to announce its own plans for the plinth.The
