Emboscados en una guerra civil, el Urabá antioqueño se veía afectado por la violencia que provenía de la guerrilla y los paramilitares, por lo que el futbol le sirvió como salida al terror que vivía junto a su familia, además de las pocas oportunidades financieras debido a la pobreza general.
