Park officials and the SFMTA recommended that JFK Drive remain closed to vehicles along a 3-mile stretch between Lincoln Way and Kezar Drive, which has been closed since the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Some 10,000 people gave feedback to park officials and the SFMTA about a stretch of JFK Drive, with the vast majority saying it should remain closed to vehicles. The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency and the Recreation and Parks Department recommended Monday John F. Kennedy Drive remain permanently car-free through Golden Gate Park.
The agencies received feedback on the closure from some 10,000 people over an eight-month outreach process. Roughly 70% of respondents to an online survey run by the agencies supported keeping JFK Drive permanently free of vehicles, as well as adding more shuttle service and bicycle infrastructure along the street.
