Penny Wong believes it is 'a good thing' Australia's Premiers were visiting China, with the remarks coinciding with Mark McGowan's five-day visit to Beijing on trade and boosting international students.
Foreign Minister Penny Wong has told the National Press Club it was"a good thing" state and territory leaders were making trips to China., she was questioned by a journalist about the trips Labor Premiers were making amid an improvement in relations with Beijing.
The Foreign Minister declined to give specific details on the briefings or whether there was a unified approach, but insisted that all conversations between the two countries followed the principle of"co-operate where we can, disagree where we must and engage in a national interest." It will be his first trip to the country in four years and includes the Annual WA-China Strategic Dialogue, a key forum for businesses leaders to discuss opportunities for investment and trade.
Mr Andrews also claimed education was high on his agenda when he visited the country, but he did not have his Education Minister or officials from the sector accompany him.
