A report by the state Irrigation and Drainage Department (DID) highlights the success and challenges of flood mitigation projects in Malaysia. The report reveals that some areas still experience flooding despite the implemented measures.
The projects, jointly carried out by the state Irrigation and Drainage Department (DID), Klang Municipal Council (now Klang Royal City Council, MBDK) and Shah Alam City Council , involved 10 flood hotspots. According to the report, five of the areas experienced one to four cases of flooding each from 2016 to 2022 after mitigation work was carried out.
The other five areas – Bukit Kemuning, Taman Rashna, Taman Intan, Jalan Bakti and Jalan Tengku Kelana – did not experience floods after the mitigation works. The report said the flooding was attributed by DID to heavy rain, drainage systems that could not handle the excess water, and the construction of roads and highways near the hotspots.A-G's Report: 16 recommendations to improve financial management of govt agencie
