Jacob Sansom and his uncle Morris Cardinal were gunned down outside the farming community of Glendon on March 27, 2020. The killings occurred in a part of…

Sarah and Jacob eventually decided they wanted to raise their children elsewhere and settled in the Lethbridge suburb of Nobleford in 2014.

Roger and his wife Sandra had raised cattle on the land north of Glendon for 30 years and had nine children together, several of whom settled on farms nearby. Devout Catholics, they often worshiped together at the church in St. Lina. Family members did not respond to interview requests. Joseph thought there was something suspicious about the truck. During the trial, he claimed two unfamiliar pickups, including a Chevy, had briefly pulled into the driveway earlier that day. He and Roger decided to investigate and headed for Roger’s F-350. The air was tense. Sandra and her daughter Stephanie, visiting from her own acreage, began to pray.

A frame from Roger Bilodeau’s interview with RCMP on March 31, 2020, following the deaths of Jacob Sansom and his uncle Maurice Cardinal. Bilodeau, left, and his son Anthony Bilodeau are charged with second-degree murder in their deaths. On the right is RCMP Sgt. Christian Reister.Jacob and Morris eventually realized they were being followed. A kilometre from the highway, Jacob brought the truck to a stop and abruptly turned around. Roger sped after it, calling Anthony on his cellphone.

The Bilodeaus claim this was the start of a life-or-death struggle. They said Jacob tried to pull Joseph from the cab and strangle Roger. Anthony claimed that while on the phone, he heard glass shattering and Joseph screaming “don’t kill my dad!” All three Bilodeaus claimed Sansom was raving, telling Morris to bring him a knife so he could “skin” them.Article content
