They say Saskatchewan has been an incredibly supportive and welcoming place to be an artist. Lisa Vargo, a fellow English professor, remembers meeting Ron in a “windowless room we called The Bunker” in 1990. A friendship blossomed, and Ron’s passion for bicycles, music, literature and the people he cared for was contagious, she said.Article content
“That was really important because it was almost this acknowledgment that ‘Yeah, you are an artist of interest to this province’, and being able to really focus on making a whole new body of work and then putting it out there,” Paula says.Article content “They are a little bit whimsical; sometimes they’re a little uncanny. They’re unpredictable. They have a lot of movement to them. I like that idea of maybe if you watch long enough, that piece might just move or sway,” she says.Article content
As the water evaporates, it forms crystals on the surface of the glass. He looks for interesting shapes and patterns, imparting vibrant colours through the use of two polarizing filters. “Of course, he succeeded, and I bought a print of the photo, which I have hung near my back door as a reminder that even nuisance has its beauty,” she said.
