Comprehensive, current data on student debtors who’ve dropped out of college is difficult to find, but it’s safe to say the people who fall under that category number in the millions.
“I went to college thinking I would start and finish by a certain period and my life would be set. It didn’t end up like that at all. I didn’t finish. In fact, I’m in debt…Take your time. It’s your money, your future. If you need to stop, quit, pause, so be it. Would I have loved to finish school? Yes, of course. Would I love to not be in debt? Hell yeah. But I realized I’m going to die in debt anyway with the way America and our system works, so I’m not too concerned.
“I was kind of like, I'm very unhappy; I can't do this anymore — especially because it's so expensive. Because I was paying for school myself, I think I had a unique viewpoint on it where I was kind of like, this is my money and I hate this. I’m not spending my money on it. Whereas I think some friends of mine probably were very unhappy in school, but stayed because they knew it was so expensive, and that their parents were kind of counting on them to stick it out.
because it was something that came with college. It didn't feel as scary then because it's like, okay, this is just what you do. If you can't get scholarships, you borrow money and you pay it back and that's just what you do. It wasn't until it kept piling up and piling up, and I really sat there and thought about how much money it was I was borrowing — and how long it would take me to pay it back while simultaneously surviving life — that it felt heavy and threatening.
