Kota Kinabalu: Nine illegal immigrants were jailed and fined for entering Sabah without valid travel documents. All the illegal immigrants, comprising nationals from the Philippines, Indonesia and Pakistan, pleaded guilty separately to the charge against them.
Advertisement Six of them were sentenced to four months’ imprisonment, while the remaining three were fined RM4,000 or four months’ imprisonment each. They were arrested at several locations around Kota Kinabalu and were found not to possess valid travel documents during inspections.

Read more The illegal immigrants were charged under Section 6 of the Immigration Act 1959/63, which carries a penalty of up to five years’ imprisonment, a fine of up to RM10,000, or both, upon conviction.
The court ordered them to serve their jail sentences from the date of their arrests. Advertisement All those sentenced were ordered to be referred to the Malaysian Immigration Department for further action after completing their respective sentences.
Meanwhile, the court fixed June 29 for re-mention of the case involving a Filipino man and woman facing the same charge, pending verification of their birth certificates by the National Registration Department . Bottom of Form
