Alice Springs Mayor Matt Paterson says the ending of the alcohol bans, which were enforced as part of the Stronger Futures legislation in the Northern Territory, is having a “catastrophic” effect.

“You run for parliament or politics to make people’s lives better,” he told Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell.

“The lifting of Stronger Futures has not seen anyone’s life better. We’ve seen domestic violence go through the roof. We’re seeing drunken behaviour in the streets.”
