Eight people were injured with four requiring hospitalization and another seven residents rescued unharmed after a one-alarm fire erupted Saturday in a brick residential building in San Francisco's South of Market neighborhood.

SAN FRANCISCO — Eight people were injured with four requiring hospitalization and another seven residents rescued unharmed after a one-alarm fire erupted Saturday in a brick residential building in San Francisco’s South of Market neighborhood.

Crews responded to reports of a fire on third and fourth floors of the four-story structure at 1000 Howard Street at around 2 p.m.UPDATE: Flags Fly at Half Staff for Salinas Police Officer Shot Dead Friday During Traffic Stop Fire department spokesperson Lt. Jonathan Baxter said once on scene the 45 firefighters not only had to battle flames and smoke, but quickly turned their attention to rescuing residents.

“They did a phenomenal interior attack, first in, getting all these individuals out of the building,” he said.
