According to Sinar Harian, the elephants got into the school grounds around 2am and destroyed classroom windows, the kitchen facilities in the classroom, and flower pots and plants around the school, such as the coconut and banana trees. Perhilitan Perak director Yusoff Shariff said the elephant also left behind excrement. Luckily, no one was injured. Members of Unit Tindakan Gajah managed to chase the elephants back into the forest area by firing shots. It’s believed the elephants ventured out of their habitat in search of food. Kuala Kangsar District Assistant Education Officer, Mohd Rassidee Mohd Rasid said it was the second time the elephants breached the school grounds this year. The first breach happened in April and the elephants destroyed the back school gate and the walls of a remove classroom . It’s suspected that the elephants got into the school compound this time through the back gate which was still under repair.The good news is the incident did not affect the studies of 23 Orang Asli Temiar students as they were temporarily moved to another class. However, parents and the students are still worried that the elephants will “attack” the school again. Rassidee said the district education office and state education department have taken appropriate actions and damage reports have been submitted so that immediate action can be taken.
