The Peripheral is a sci-fi series that makes some interesting connections to HBO’s hit Westworld including sentient robots and strong female leads.
Although they differ in many ways, Amazon Prime Video's The Peripheral and HBO's Westworld have a variety of similarities ranging from the relationship between humans and technology to their producers, Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy. The Peripheral follows a young woman who discovers dark secrets about her reality through the use of VR. Westworld, based on the Michael Crichton film of the same name, explores a Western theme park filled with robots called Hosts that may be becoming sentient.
Overall, The Peripheral's robots are weirder than Westworld'sbut with some very important similarities. The Peripherals and Hosts may seem harmless but actually display some surprisingly intense fighting skills. Additionally, both worlds introduce two kinds of robots: one form is more human-like while the other is more clearly a robot and acts as a drone or protector.
4 The Peripheral & Westworld Both Have A Future Apocalypse One significant problem in The Peripherals and Westworld is a future apocalypse. In The Peripherals, the apocalypse is called the Jackpot and includes power outages, a pandemic, and a nuclear explosion that is set to hit Flynne's timeline in the near future.
