Sydney Contemporary will run from September 7-10 at Carriageworks.
“Gone are the days where galleries were just having what we might have called stockroom exhibitions at art fairs,” she said. Emerging artists being shown at the fair by NAS this year include Francis Meow, whose vibrant semi-abstract paintings sold out at the school’s graduate show last year. Also in the NAS booth will be Chrystal Rimmer’s new sculptures made from lustrous recycled aluminium.
The most expensive work in Justin Miller Art’s booth will be a waterfall painting by Japan’s Hiroshi Senju, priced at $1 million. Mr Miller will also be sellingMr Miller is particularly fond of a painting by French artist Mildred Bendall whose work he discovered while travelling overseas this year.The popular Art Money scheme will have a booth at the fair. Art Money will launch its Buyer’s Premium product, allowing Sydney Contemporary attendees to purchase art at the fair and pay over time.
Will buyers be deterred by tough economic times? Mr Reid said it was hard to predict, but he remains optimistic about the art market in the “two-speed economy”.
